Subj : flood stuff was: Vacation To : Daryl Stout From : Barry Martin Date : Fri Jun 12 2020 12:14:00 Hi Daryl! DS> I've got plenty of toilet paper and paper towels...which helps DS> being the only one here. BM> Except when you run out from on the wall and the spares are in the BM> closest! DS> I check that before I go fight the cat in the sandbox...plus I DS> don't use that many paper towels. Housecleaning is on hold for DS> another week, until I see the hernia surgeron. In the first floor batheroom there's a small wooden storage cabinet and a 'emergency' roll of toilet paper is kept in there, should not plan ahead or doesn't look like running out. Upstairs bathoom has a free-standing metal toilet paper holder: the roll for use hangs at the top, the spare rolls stack underneath. Run out of paper and it's your own fault as in plain sight! BM> Makes sense: you can always clean the toilet by candlelight but can't BM> run the computers without power! DS> But, it's not fun when you're on the throne, and the lights go DS> out. :P No! LIS some time back, here have a couple of plug-in emergency lights, a few 'regular' lights powered by various UPSs. No emergency lighting in the bathrooms; have taken showers by lantern light after the fact (power had gone out). BM> Yesterday (Monday) the roofers were here to replace the roof (hail BM> damage) -- the semi-official high I saw was 92ø but the (digital) BM> thermometer here at the house said 99ø. Today's high only supposed to BM> be in the mid-80's but rain around noon -- Cristobal is over Missouri BM> currently and tracking for us to be on the eastern leading edge around BM> noon. Tomorrow and Thursday almost cold at in the 70's. DS> We're having highs in the 80s and lows in the low 60s, but it DS> must've been in the 50s last night. I got chilled, so I had to DS> turn the heat on. The forecast high by next Wednesdsay is 93...so DS> heat advisories may return soon. Your chill may also have been a reaction to healing from the hernia surgery. If you're cold and putting on a sweater, etc., doesn't work, furnace it is! Next week here is supposed to be cooler than average, IIRC. "It is what it is". In summer the house tends to get hot in the evening even though cooling off outside, so sometimes it's in the 80's outside and we have the windows open or otherise cool inside; might be 70's or even 60's outside, getting into the 80's inside, so flip on the air! BM> "It's going to be interesting!" It looked like some of the shows we BM> watch ended a bit oddly due to a quick wrap-up because of impending BM> closures/shutdowns. Other seasonal shows have a full audience -- BM> "obviously" recorded before the pandemic hit. (Some of) the soap BM> operas are showing reruns: was channel-surfing and saw one in was in BM> the old 4:3 format (back in the analog TV days with CRTs/glass picture BM> tubes. DS> Then, they are using the laugh tracks instead of a live DS> audience. Plus, all the money the actors and everyone else lost, DS> when production was suspeneded. We'll move to Phase 2 of DS> reopening on Monday...not sure when Phase 3 will occur, or if DS> there's a Phase 4. The whole thing has a bunch of new's -- sure, have been strikes with a segment of the workforce out, but never to this extent. Off-hand not sure what stage/step/level Iowa and Illinois are at. Things are more or less in a state of flux as numbers dictate. Even if officially announced an all-clear I'm going to maintain caution for a while. Update: The noon news stated Iowa is removing the 50% capacity limitations for restaurants, and several other sites effective today (Friday June 12). They did not mention what's going on on the Illinois side. The hospitals are allowing one adult visitor per patient. two for end-of-life and births. BM> I'm curious as to what will happen in the Fall when the television BM> season traditionally starts up again? DS> Reruns of reruns?? :P Some could be worthwhile! BM> ... "The Lawrence Welk Show" premiered on ABC-TV on July 2, 1955. DS> I love watching ragtime pianist JoAnn Castle. So a rerun on other than PBS would be of interest! - r - Barry_Martin_3@ r - @Q.COM r - r ....
