Subj : Update on Hy-Vee Q's To : Nancy Backus From : Barry Martin Date : Fri May 22 2020 11:44:00 Hi Nancy! NB>>> Also, I don't NB>>> think that people were exactly in a holiday mood... and probably NB>>> realized that parties and visits weren't happening this year.... BM>> Probably so on the holiday mood. Locally more of a "shouldn't" than BM>> "can't", though of course if someone is in a nursing home/care BM>> facility or hospital, etc., is a "can't". Also can't reserve a large BM>> table or room at a restaurant as no dine-in yet -- everybody meet in BM>> the parking lot! NB>> Here, gathering in the parking lot would also have been a no-no... NB>> except maybe for a very small group... and we'd have to have masks and NB>> social distancing... And having a party (other than virtual) has also NB>> been forbidden.... BM> Here too, though at least it would be easier to social distance at BM> tables set up in the parking lot than inside. NB> I suppose so... There was something about groups of ten or less now being allowed as part of the re-opening guidelines. ...I'll admit to not paying too close attention mainly because a lot of the gathering stuff isn't applying to me, or more I'm not applying to it as no plans for attending a wedding, re-union, etc. BM> I haven't heard when restaurants are going to be allowed to re-open BM> (under COVID-19 guidelines); this morning's news did have a blurb about BM> *maybe* hair salons, barbershops, and the like might be allowed to BM> re-open this Saturday (May 16th). As was a local station implied here BM> in Scott County even though we're one of the 22 counties still under BM> the temporarily closed quidelines (though portions of the Mall opened BM> earlier this week). NB> Each state (and region, etc) seems to be making up their own NB> rules as to what happens when... Right. LIS I was surprised at some of the allowed to re-open options here in Scott County when we're still 'closed'. NB>> I hope it doesn't end up being a real pain to remove them when the NB>> time comes, then... :) BM> I'm thinking not: other events have used temporary floor decals so I'm BM> thinking the same glue/adhesive would be used. The main problem would BM> be if the decals were left in position for a really long time and the BM> floor faded due to the fluorescent lighting: rectangle of the original BM> colour where the decal was. Doubt if left that long, plus Hy-Vee as BM> well as a lot of other stores have switched to LED lighting. NB> So probably temporary, and probably won't be on long enough for NB> any real discoloration to occur... :) Seems not. Did notice a lack of the floor decal in two areas which are side-by-side. The store's general tile is a medium gray -- actually a nice colour and not as boring as it sounds. Also has a bit of bounce to it. One of the sections without the one way decals is a black-and-white sort of zig-zag pattern which will be the new candy section -- I had commented on it to one of the manangers when I first saw it a few weeks ago - that's when I found out it was going to be the candy section and he or one of the guys he was with commented on it as being Willie Wonka- ish (from the movie). The other section (adjacent) has a charcoal coloured tile. No idea what's going there (stay tuned!). BM>>> Hy-Vee's aisles are comfortably wide for two-way traffic but no where BM>>> near wide enough for the social distancing. I've sort of watched others BM>>> and they seem uncomfortable approaching each other in a two-way aisle BM>>> (before the one-ways) but OK with passing on a one-way. Pretty much BM>>> the same spacing in both 'passing' events, just how interpreted. NB>>> Approaching, one will probably be breathing more of the other's space, NB>>> and harder to turn away to avoid, perhaps... but I mostly suspect it's NB>>> more psychological... :) BM>> Agree. The six foot distancing isn't a guarantee to stay healthy but BM>> more probability of a safe zone. If someone is hacking away I'll be BM>> increasing my six foot zone! NB>> You'd probably have done that even in more normal times... BM> When possible! NB> A lot of what we are doing is just a more stringent form of what NB> we probably would normally be doing... :) True. If know someone is sick probably would want to keep them at a distance almost naturally. And not like places aren't cleaned, just now being more paid attention to the act of cleaning and the detail. BM>> ... Ask me about my vow of silence. NB>> Not that you'd be allowed to respond.... BM> Can I pantomime? NB> Only if allowed by your order... ;) I'll have to ask the Head Monk, though that seems to have a bit of an issue in itself. ¯ ® ¯ Barry_Martin_3@ ® ¯ @Q.COM ® ¯ ® .... HE: Go on, don't be shy. Ask me out.
