And even with current real life there are the "you're a tourist" give-aways: the natives don't wear , or at least not as depicted on TV and movies. Similar for back then: the newcomer lady might wear the bustle and sport the pink parasol whereas the residenced lady probably a skirt without any metal enhancements getting in the way.
