Subj : FWIW - Shingrix To : Nancy Backus From : Barry Martin Date : Wed Apr 22 2020 07:45:00 Hi Nancy! NB>>> Got interrupted last night with what turned out to be a long call... BM>> That sounds like a "But First"! NB>> One could say that... ;) With everyone in isolation of one sort or NB>> another, seems there are more of those long calls, too.... It's good NB>> to be in contact, though... :) BM> True: one doesn't realize how much communication is done just through BM> pass-by contacts! Now all those pent-up mini-conversations burst BM> through! NB> And they might not normally have been directed all to that NB> person, but with other contacts cut off, there's more need to NB> talk... ;) My one sister has a habit of multitasking with phone NB> calls... used to was, she'd call while she was in transit between NB> places, now she calls while she's busy sewing up face masks... NB> one can hear the whirring of the machine in the background... ;) Some people can do need to do some other task while talking on the phone (don't do videochat!), others need to sit and only talk. At the apartment I would start sitting and then start slowly pacing. It helped the phone had a realllly long coil-cord! NB>> Some supplements can be helpful in boosting one's immune system, in NB>> one way or another... :) BM> True, though may be skewed: someone taking supplements is probably BM> more likely to eat healthier, and do healthier activities including BM> washing hands, which would help stay healthy. I do take a small BM> assortment of supplements, seem to help which is good enough for me. NB> It still depends on the person... I've known some that take loads NB> of supplements and then expect that alone to keep them healthy... NB> ;) The overall base diet needs to be decent; supplements are just that: supplemental and not primary. And some may help with disease control: when I broke my femur they found my blood serum Vitamin D was low so said I needed to take supplements; a couple/few years later I had too much floating through so told to stop the Vit D specific but continue with the 'with D' (such as Calcium with D as opposed to just Calcium). BM>> I will admit to bringing hand sanitizer with me (and using it!) when I BM>> go out lately. (That activity highly curtailed.) Rarely used it until BM>> now as didn't feel a need to. Now - just a little extra layer of BM>> protection. BTW I did find some time back hand sanitizer makes a BM>> pretty good remover for ink jet printer ink spills! NB>> Hmmm... that almost sounds like an argument against using it on one's NB>> sensitive hands... Just like suggesting one not drink CocaCola NB>> judging on its ability to peel paint off a car... ;) BM> I thought it was rust but the concept is the same. :) My guess is BM> the hand sanitizer's alcohol broke down the ink in a way water or BM> window cleaner did not. NB> Yeah, maybe it was rust... right, same difference... But I NB> thought that window cleaner might have had some alcohol in it, NB> too... well, ammonia and/or vinegar for sure... but it's supposed NB> to cut grease as well as grime, so I'd think it would be more NB> like the hand sanitizer than water anyway.... Either the brand of window cleaner had at the time didn't have too much of the grease-cutting agent/s or was the wrong type for ink. BM> ...Looking at a label: "stop and ask a doctor BM> if skin irritation develops". Gee, I wonder what I would be told?! NB> Apparently, that you were allergic to one or more of the NB> ingredients in the hand sanitizer... My skin can't take much of NB> the sanitizer, actually... so I'm not using much of it even NB> though it's put out everywhere now.... I very rarely use any hand sanitizer that has been set out for general use: either have done where I haven't touched anything or have seen where it has just been cleaned. NB>>> I think I'll wait to get the Shingrex now until COVID-19 is died NB>>> down... don't want to overtax the immune system right now... :) BM>> I would probably wait also. My second part is coming up the end of BM>> the month; will ask the pharmacist's advice. (Starting is different BM>> from continuing.) NB>> Perhaps.... but definitely would check on the advisability of the NB>> timing.... possible that the pharmacy would just as soon postpone to NB>> later in the effective period, given the pandemic situation... BM> I'm thinking yes, though will ask: I have a prescription to pick up in BM> I think two weeks which is the the first week of my two to six months. NB> At least you have a good window still for it... :) Yes. As I said in an earlier message, the Pharmacy is not doing any shots currently unless absolutely required; if someone was near the end of their six month period they would receive their second shot but those of us with plenty of time will be delayed. The Pharmacy Tech said the earliest would be May 1st but she also indicated probably another several weeks after that; still plenty of time on my schedule. BM>>> Will ask and do some on-line checking; probably put a note in my BM>>> calendar to inquire in four or five years -- what is said now may BM>>> not be accurate later. NB>>> And you might be conflating with the older vaccine, too.... BM>> True. May be if the patient had the Zostavax plus Shingrix at certain BM>> ages does one thing or 'early Shingrix' (before they ran out) has one BM>> rule and 'new Shingrix' (the one currently) has a different rule BM>> because of the way it was produced. NB>> Lots of variables... BM> So this thread will be continued in five years!! NB> Or at least picked up again... The Thread That Would Not Die!! BM>> As I think I said in an interim message did buy gas and the vendor had BM>> been unable to come up with a supply, though is still trying. NB>> Right... I did see that... :) Like I've been saying, quite possible NB>> you were a test market for the coffee-flavored M&Ms, and now you'll NB>> just have to wait until they decide to bring them out for real... or NB>> never see them again, when they decide not to do so... ;/ BM> Too bad I don't need something inexpensive at Amazon: combine that BM> purchase with the ones I had seen there! ...Wonder if still BM> available?! NB> Maybe... but quite possibly not.... unless they happened to still NB> have some of a stock left over... I need to check again; did buy some HDMI cables from Amazon (better deal than eBay for what I wanted) -- bought four at $25.99. Needed one, wanted at least one spare, so that was two and possibly three. Another spare was stretching that a bit but getting over the #25 for free shipping helped the decision! And sort of a follow-up on that topic in the next message to ALL. ¯ ® ¯ Barry_Martin_3@ ® ¯ @Q.COM ® ¯ ® .... What do you drive?
