NB>>>> Unless one has seen similar before... the fatter pole does give a NB>>>> clue... :) BM>>> Just a slight one! And the pole being where it is doesn't seem to BM>>> make sense for any other use: no lights on it to illuminate the parking BM>>> lot, no electrical wires.... NB>>> But it is a reasonable place to be a flagpole, somewhat... :) It's NB>>> behind the hotel, but obvious to people driving on the expressway that NB>>> runs behind that.... ;) BM>> So a flagpole in front of the hotel would probably make more sense; BM>> especially if it's like a hotel I'm thinking of here where I-74 runs a BM>> reasonable distance behind. It would not make sense to have a BM>> flagpole back there. NB>> This one, there's practically no distance at all to the expressway... BM> Better select the room in front and not the one bordering that noisy BM> highway! NB> I'd not be staying there, anyway.... And, as I found out once NB> when I had to stay at a hotel that was on an airport grounds, NB> they've got some pretty good acoustical shieldings for some hotel NB> buildings.. :) Besides, I-390 isn't all that noisy a highway, NB> anyway... ;) I've heard (or at least paid attention to) more construction noise from the I-74 Bridge Construction than from the interstate itself. Have heard the trucks downshifting and motorcycles (and sometimes cars) racing. Usually just a relatively quite hum and the occasional whine of tires. As for the noise from the air (about six miles from the airport), we hear the helicopters more than the jets, though some of the planes are a little noisy. Depends on weather conditions and flight patterns, of course. NB> ...
