Subj : Minced Garlic To : Nancy Backus From : Barry Martin Date : Sun Feb 09 2020 09:22:00 Hi Nancy! BM>> Here it's difficult to get the paper sacs. Well, the full-sized ones; BM>> the 'lunch bag' sized ones are common. NB>> Up until recently, the paper grocery bags were available for the NB>> asking, and kept stocked at the checkout aisles... as of Jan 27, when NB>> they removed the plastic, they also have started to charge 5 cents for NB>> the paper bags (which is taxable, just like if you were purchasing bags NB>> from the regular aisles), but are donating that nickel to FoodLink, our NB>> local food bank... They are pushing for people to buy and use the NB>> reusable bags (99›) instead.... We've already obtained a large NB>> collection of both those and the paper bags, which we bring with us NB>> when we shop... BM> Years ago Hy-Vee was would take 5› off per bag if the customer used BM> their own reuseable bag. I don't recall them charging for a bag but I BM> do recall shopping and being charged for a bag at other stores. NB> We've not had that at Wegmans, but a natural foods store we shop NB> at (Lori's) will take off 25› per order if you bring your own NB> bag(s)... That 25› seems to be a good psychological price: Hy-Vee's nickle per bag adds up but five cents is almost nothing to a lot of people: "not worth bending down for" if they dropped. (I picked up a lot of change over the years and deposited quite a few dollars: became a free something!) BM>> The credit union had a shred event a couple months ago and wanted the BM>> to-be-shredded items in paper bags, preferably no boxes; we did BM>> scrounge up from our 'collection' but that's running very low. NB>> I'd probably have brought items in boxes or reusable bags or totes, NB>> and just brought the containers back home with me... or did one have NB>> to just drop off and leave, to be shredded later...? I know I'd NB>> rather see the stuff actually be shredded before I left... ;) BM> The items to be shredded are dumped into a overgrown trash can on BM> wheels and when filled the can gets wheeled over to the the shredding BM> truck (usually about 20-50 feet away - within eyesight). Can is BM> inserted in to a 'slot' in the truck and "sucked up" into the shredder. BM> Probably a small platform slides out and lifts the can, just looks BM> like the can get pulled in. NB> So maybe the truck takes it to a different site to do the actual NB> shredding, too, then... Did my usual understating: after the can got sucked inside the truck it sounded like some shredding going on while the can was returned to the ground. Sounded to me like there was shredding occurring within the truck. BM> As for seeing one's items actually shredded, no. In process to be BM> shredded, yes. NB> I think I'd rather do my own shredding, then.... ;) Same thoughts after that update? ¯ ® ¯ Barry_Martin_3@ ® ¯ @Q.COM ® ¯ ® .... Where is the scientific community I hear about?
