Subj : Health Was: Nuts To : Nancy Backus From : Barry Martin Date : Thu Feb 06 2020 08:19:00 Hi Nancy! BM>>> There are around seven cameras on the I-74 Bridge alone, but AFAIK BM>>> they're for traffic monitoring and not speed. NB>>> I see a number of cameras on the highways and roads... as far as I NB>>> know, they also are only for traffic monitoring... :) BM>> Yes, though I would suppose if someone noted a vehicle speeding along BM>> at a 100 MPH in a 65 MPH zone they might call to have someone check it BM>> out. NB>> If they were viewing the cameras in real time.... and not some minutes NB>> later or something.... :) BM> "Hey, an hour ago...". Nope, just doesn't quite work. My guess BM> is someone (probably plural) watches a screen of maybe a dozen or some BM> cameras and if notes something unusual checks it out. NB> Could be... :) Sounds boring! BM> ...Sounds like a good job for a computer: object moves too fast or BM> too slow wake up a human -- to me staring at that kind of display all BM> day would be borrrring! NB> Different strokes for different folks, I guess... Not a job I'd NB> want, either... Programming the computer to do that might be an NB> interesting proposition, too.... I'd find the programming part interesting if something I could use or see. The ANSI Art conference here was quite active years ago and I'd have some fun finding and editing mistakes ==> line extended one pixel too far, pixel left black and should be blue, that sort of thing. Guess "detail corrections". Report back to the poster and they'd correct. BM>>> Most of the speed cameras in the state were removed a few years ago; BM>>> I've forgotten the detailed reason but seemed like it had something BM>>> to do with a technicality of not observing directly and also some BM>>> people were getting tickets for speeding even though they weren't BM>>> driving ==> son speeding in car registered to parent. NB>>> We had them in our city... and they quietly just took them all down NB>>> eventually... I think the major reason was that drivers caught by NB>>> them tended to make big stinks about the results and it became more NB>>> of a money loss from the court cases than a money maker from the NB>>> fines.... And it didn't improve anybody's driving responsibly, NB>>> either... still had accidents, people sleezing through, etc... And NB>>> sometimes ticketed people for legitimate actions, like stopping and NB>>> then turning right on red... BM>> Here the infraction was reviewed by camera company, then sent on to BM>> the local police for review, then a ticket was issued. I remember BM>> reading years back a lot of tickets were not issued when technically BM>> should have: almost stopping ('slides'), etc. And locally it did cut BM>> the number of red light runners. NB>> Yours might have been a little more effective than ours, then.... BM> It did seem to reduce the number of red-light runners. I haven't seen BM> anything on the news in quite a while about accidents at the 'bad' BM> intersections locally. Quite certain not eliminated, just no BM> accidents. And possible the traffic control folks could have tweaked BM> the timing of the lights to help reduce accidents: E-W lights turn red, BM> pause a second before N-S lights turn green: that one second delay BM> could allow a light runner to get through the intersection -- still BM> illegal, but at least no one injured. NB> We do have intersections that have that sort of delay built in... NB> along with super long yellows.... All that having to be done because some people think they're above everyone else! BM>>>>> Hmm: there's a pen over there...... NB>>>>> Hmmmmm.... ;) BM>>>> And paper over there.... NB>>>> And did you put them together yet....? ;) BM>>> Currently using the It's Too Cold Out There excuse! NB>>> Ah, but, you are inside where it's warm.... NO excuse... BM>> But have to go outside to get there! NB>> The paper and pen are outside.....??! BM> Hmm, yes! Who put those out there? Now have to get around to BM> bringing in to thaw! ...And by the time that happens Spring will be BM> here and thaw on own. Maybe even Summer by then! NB> Those excuses seem just a bit preposterous... ;) The paper won't NB> survive till Spring, I'd think... probably already totally NB> ruined... Umm, cardboard? BM>> OTOH you might be happy to know I'm straightening out the area of my BM>> Electronics Workbench in the basement. Just 'got the urge'. Do have BM>> to wear a sweater-jacket 'cause it's a little chilly down there. BM>> Overall still looks messy because have to store some to-be-trashed BM>> items until Bulk Waste Pickup -- which is next Monday but if the BM>> weather isn't acceptable will have to leave until next time: don't want BM>> a box frozen to the snow, or rain-soaked and falls apart when they go BM>> to pick it up. NB>> That sounds like potentially a useful project.... :) Especially NB>> if the follow-thru happens.... :) BM> Monday morning the weather was a few degrees below freezing and so did BM> put out the boxes for recycling. Getting rid of those boxes just made BM> it easier to get to the other storage boxes on the shelving, making it BM> easier to properly store the stuff. (Sounds like a horrible mess! BM> Is, but isn't -- "neat mess"!) NB> It's a process... ;) Little by little.... ;) Haven't done anything the past few days: other day went to get a haircut, start the car: rur! rurh! rurrr click-click-click. Great! New battery. Charge up. Call a shop where I usually do business; they don't have the battery I need in stock. End up going to the dealer. Battery is fine, some "parasitic draw" killing the battery. ...I mentioned I had been havign odd problems with the door locks -- ended up the module in the driver's door had shorted/failed/something but waas what was causing the problem for the battery and the locks. So $50 for the part and $500 in labour.... Though to be fair on the labour I did have them check why I was 'constantly' putting air in two tires ==> bead leak -- so that wa lart of the labour. Got two annoyances fixed! NB> ... XXXXXXXXXX Better Taglines Through Confiscation XXXXXXXXX ¯ ® ¯ Barry_Martin_3@ ® ¯ @Q.COM ® ¯ ® .... GO TO YOUR ROOM!!
