Subj : cell service was: Note f To : Nancy Backus From : Barry Martin Date : Tue Jan 21 2020 08:55:00 Hi Nancy! NB>>> Cell networks don't seem to crash for bad weather here, either... NB>>> My phone seems to work whatever the weather.... BM>> OK, thanks for the verification. Could be all sorts of reasons why BM>> Daryl's cell connection fails during bad weather; would think it would BM>> be corrected as more people are getting cellular service as their BM>> primary telephone. NB>> Could be that their cell tower system hasn't been updated recently... NB>> or maybe the storms are more violent, so they wreak more havoc with NB>> cell signals.... BM> Yes: all sorts of possibilities. And might not be one specific item BM> but several small ones combining. I know television signals will drop BM> out: for me it's a combination of antenna location, gusting winds, and BM> probably tree branches moving. NB> Those sound possible also... but I don't know enough about cell NB> phone signals really... As we were just saying last message, NB> coverage can be spotty for all sorts of reasons... Yes. The general rule is "line of sight": if you can effectively see the antenna you should be able to connect. Then add on the plusses and minuses: bouncing in the Ionosphere will increase the distance, going through a wall or roof or tunnel will decrease.
