Subj : Health Was: Nuts To : Nancy Backus From : Barry Martin Date : Sat Jan 18 2020 08:13:00 Hi Nancy! BM>>> In most cases it doesn't. Personally I'm not interested in BM>>> speed/speeding/going super-fast. I can sort of understand others' BM>>> interest and challenge. Apparently my 'sane brain' kicks in at some BM>>> relatively low speeds. NB>>> Or at least close enough to the speed limits to not get you in NB>>> trouble... ;) BM>> I don't know: I did a little over 70 MPH on a 55 MPH bridge! Highway BM>> was 70, bridge is narrow so they post it at 55, Had a new car: went BM>> from convertible to hard-top, so my judging speeds by sound was off. BM>> ...Thinking the bridge griders going faster than usual -- glance at BM>> speedometer: oh poop! NB>> Caught you by surprise, did it....? Fortunately for you there NB>> wasn't an officer lying in wait for you.... :) BM> Or now speed cameras! NB> True, they are even more insidious... ;) There are around seven cameras on the I-74 Bridge alone, but AFAIK they're for traffic monitoring and not speed. Most of the speed cameras in the state were removed a few years ago; I've forgotten the detailed reason but seemed like it had something to do with a technicality of not observing directly and also some people were getting tickets for speeding even though they weren't driving ==> son speeding in car registered to parent. NB>>>>> ... My support group for procrastinators hasn't met yet. BM>>>> Gee, I should modify that one to 'procrastinating helpers' to use with BM>>>> the beginning portion! I'll have to put that on my To Do List - BM>>>> eventually.... NB>>>> Right. ;) BM>>> And thanks for the reminder: I hadn't gotten to it yet! NB>>> And..... BM>> Hmm: there's a pen over there...... NB>> Hmmmmm.... ;) BM> And paper over there.... NB> And did you put them together yet....? ;) Currently using the It's Too Cold Out There excuse! BM>>> For some reason reminded me of when I went down to New Orleans with a BM>>> classmate. No, wasn't for Mardi Gras - was a couple of weeks before BM>>> or after (I've forgotten which) but he was from a town outside N.O. and BM>>> went to visit family and friends. (BTW, this was 1976 or 1977.) BM>>> He purposely stopped at a gas station on the southern side of the BM>>> Mason-Dixon Line. Attendant shuffles out to fill the tank, clean BM>>> windshield, etc. -- all sort of in slow motion. My friend had sort of BM>>> forewarned me of this; LIS he had stopped partially for my BM>>> 'entertainment' as a 'Yankee'. There was definitely no rushing! NB>>> Some places simply are more relaxed.... ;) BM>> Yes: one of the ladies at the apartment complex was from Pennsylvania BM>> taking classes at the Arsenal. She remarked out East when the traffic BM>> light turns green everyone goes. Out here it's traffic light turns BM>> green, first car says 'hmm, light turned green' and goes. Second car BM>> says "hmm, light turned green, car in front of me moved' and goes. BM>> Third car says 'hmm, light turned green, the first car moved, the car BM>> in front of me moved' and goes. Fourth car says 'hmm. light turned BM>> green, first car moved, second car moved, third car moved, I can move' BM>> and so hits the red. (It's not quite that bad but definately slower.) NB>> Any car not in the first couple has to pay attention to more than NB>> just the car(s) in front of them, obviously... :) BM> That and that's the way lights are done out here. Out East it's BM> generally light turns green and the whole line moves; here it's more BM> segmented. When I visit my Mother in NH I do find myself getting into BM> "Boston mode": faster, less interaction with strangers..... NB> One still can't go any faster than the car in front of one... ;) Well, one can for a brief period of time but then the result isn't desireable! ¯ ® ¯ Barry_Martin_3@ ® ¯ @Q.COM ® ¯ ® ....
