Subj : weather was: food option To : BARRY MARTIN From : Daryl Stout Date : Fri Dec 27 2019 02:22:00 Barry, BM>I looked, the 'packet explosion' is to due to Daryl's reconnecting. :) And, we knew I was full of hot air, and a few other things. BM>And then you were gone again for a few days; figured either more BM>wildness at those Party Houses () or your laptop decided to do a BM>Grinch impersonation. [Correction: main computer.] That used to be my ringtone. But, it's how I feel with having to be offline, due to a threat of thunderstorms and severe weather this weekend. However, I can't control the weather, or I'd be [pooping] in high grass (according to my mother-in-law) . BM>Back to you issue, I've also had fans in the PSU freeze. Or fall off BM>(!). Know a couple of times I've hung a spare fan off the PSU's air BM>port until able to replace. At least the table where the BBS computer and my laptop are, is strong and stable. BM>That may be where I misremembered: usually laptops have the smaller BM>storage space. Especially how the hard drives are partitioned. BM>Backups are good! Especially when it comes to getting out of a parking space. BM>Oh, just tiny little files! The MythTV files can be several gig BM>each. My regular 'human' files are more like what you dealt with. I had to buy a 64 GB thumb drive (along with a few other things) at Office Depot yesterday. With my becoming new Editor of the state square dance publication next week, I didn't think the 32 GB drive was big enough. BM>Probably better you told it: that motherly delivery of "I love you but BM>do it again...." "...and I'll give you something to cry about". BM>You should be able to do an incremental back up, which will just copy BM>the new and altered files, so won't take nearly as long. Then make BM>another full back up as a separate set followed by incrementals. This BM>will give a sort of back up to the back up. On the third (or later) BM>full back up the original set is reused. I've got backups on both systems, usually done on Saturdays. But, with a threat of thunderstorms here Friday night into Sunday, that will kill the backup for this week. BM>Christmas Day as I write this. 42ø when I got up; today's high BM>predicted for 55ø, about the same as yesterday. Cooling down on the BM>weekend with something like a 40% rain for Saturday and for snow on BM>Sunday. It was near 70 here the last 2 days. Winter?? More like early spring...and unfortunately, that means weatherwise (tornadoes). BM> NB> No, this roof should last for at least that decade or two now... BM>Good! For what they charge for it, it darn sure better last!! BM>OK, yes -- I had to look it up: sort of knew what you meant but one of BM>the pictures really looked like a basketweave pattern and looked nice. BM>Our is more the wooden shingles style: random widths and the bottoms of BM>the rows aren't quite even to give it that more individual pieces look. BM>What's 'funny' is a few people around the greater neighbourhood redid BM>their roofs after we did and they have a similar style. Not saying they BM>copied, but.... Many of the homes in south Florida area had the Spanish barrel tiles. As for the shingles, it reminds me of the joke where the guy goes into the doctors office. He tells the nurse he needs to see the doctor, as "I've got the shingles". Well, no 2 hour wait in the waiting room...he gets rushed back, as if he's having a heart attack!! The doctor enters the room in just 2 minutes, and asks the patient what's wrong. The exchange goes like this: Doctor: "What's wrong?". Patient: "I've got the shingles". Doctor: "How long have you had them?". Patient: "This morning". Doctor: "I don't see them on you". Patient: "They're out in the truck for the new roof. Where do you want them??" Seriously, if one has had chicken pox (as I have), they have the shingles virus inside them (I've had the shot for it)...and it's both disfiguring and painful. BM>And here I thought it was just my laziness! ...When the house is BM>reshingled will probably have the shed done too: it's roof was done the BM>same time as the house. (Is an ~8x10' outbuilding for the yard tools BM>and a bit of storage.) I could do it but why? The roofers have the BM>equipment and know-how. Probably would take me as long to shingle the BM>shed as it would for them to do all the house - I don't have the BM>experience. But, you apparently have the money for it...yet, we are lazy when it comes to paying high bills that we think are ridiculous.
