Subj : Eggs! To : Nancy Backus From : Barry Martin Date : Thu Dec 26 2019 08:58:00 Hi Nancy! NB>>>> I'm making a little headway on the backlog finally... ;) BM>>> Holidays are coming up -- that'll fix that! NB>>> Not necessarily.... :) BM>> You're not planning on attending any wild bashes?! NB>> Haven't been invited to any that I know of... BM> Then it's up to you! NB> What, to stage some...? We went out with friends today to NB> our favorite Taste of Japan... And Friday will be my family's NB> shindig... not all that wild, but will kill the day pretty NB> well... :) Just enough to be festive! Some families/groups are riotous, others meek and mild; most somewhere in-between. BM>> Yes: don't recall when did exactly but did mulch the leaves - packed BM>> down to one lawn bag and got the gutters cleaned out - found a pine BM>> cone in one which is odd only because the closest pine tree is about BM>> fifty feet away. NB>> It may have had help... like a squirrel or something.... BM> A possibility, though did have some land on the porch and deck and BM> doubtful those were carried by critters. NB> Then maybe it was the wind for all of them... :) I'm thinking from the wind, plus when we did have the winds saw some pine cones travelling through the air a pretty good distance from the trees. BM>> Right. BTW I did have a chance to ask the Frito Lay Guy about his BM>> merchandize being moved - basicly he doesn't know. He did say when a BM>> major move occurs he does get help from his boss, and/or sometimes BM>> from the store. He wasn't too concerned about it and kidded me about BM>> buying some so he didn't have to move those. NB>> And you said it would depend on when it needed to be moved whether NB>> or not you'd be in a position to help out there... BM> The do have my schedule down! One of the ladies stocking in the Dairy BM> department looked at me and exclaimed "oh! I forgot it was Thursday!". NB> The last few weeks, I'm sure we've been confusing people that NB> think they have our schedules down... we've been busy on Friday NB> afternoon/evenings one way or another, so have been shopping on NB> Saturday instead.... that'll be the case again this week, with my NB> family's Christmas on Friday... Just when they start to figure us out we throw them a curve ball! NB>>>> As long as you can (eventually at least) find what you are looking NB>>>> for... I suspect that the store to some extent takes advantage of the NB>>>> move to quietly discontinue some items... they just don't make it to NB>>>> tbe new spot.... BM>>> I would suspect that also. So far haven't noticed anything missing BM>>> other than the coffee-flavoured M&Ms but those were sporadic before BM>>> the remodel. NB>>> With our store shuffle, I've noticed a few things not reappearing... BM>> My coffee-flavoured M&Ms!!!! NB>> Those were probably just a test-market item anyway.... ;) BM> It seemes like the entire M&M section is condensed and not BM> as much of a variety as originally. NB> As I said to begin with... they seem to be taking advantage of NB> the moves to quietly disappear some things.... Probably. M&M's and the rest of the candy area seems an odd place to have items disappear. Guess we'll see! BM>>> I would agree. Apparently profitable to both Starbucks and Hy-Vee. BM>>> ...I could sort of see sipping on a nice warm cup of coffee while BM>>> shopping after coming in from the cold; maybe they'll also get new BM>>> carts with cup holders! NB>>> The cupholders might be an easy addon to the existing carts... I've NB>>> seen some at Wegmans that just hook over the side of the cart... BM>> Yes, probably will have some sort of add-on cupholder available. NB>> Would make sense... :) BM> Stay tuned! Noticed last week the store had signs up advising people BM> could apply for barista positions at Hy-Vee.com -- I would have more BM> expected Starbuck.com but perhaps links. NB> Maybe... or maybe the Starbucks-in-the-stores have the stores be NB> the actual hirers for them.... Maybe -- something I may inquire about eventually if comes up. LIS, at this point no real desire/need for coffee while shopping, though if I have a new prescription while waiting for it to be filled instead of staring off in to space at the pharmacy's waiting area I might be tempted to go next door and idle the time away with a . ...Hmm! And maybe it's not a coincidence Pharmacy and Starbucks are close together! NB>>>> Yours is definitely more of a real restaurant.... BM>>> Hehe - no. Compared to the restaurants at the new stores the one at BM>>> 'my' store is an eating area. I would expect after the remodel it to BM>>> be transformed into a nice restaurtant. NB>>> We can't get steak dinners at ours... ;) But, yes, after the remodel, NB>>> yours should be even nicer... :) BM>> I sometimes wonder if I would ask "how fresh is the steak?" if they'd BM>> answer "John in the Meat Department just sliced it". (I wouldn't BM>> ask as the restaurant staff doesn't know me like the store staff does.) NB>> You just need to eat regularly at the restaurant... the staff would NB>> soon get to know you well enough... ;) BM> Hmmm, that's a possibility! NB> Keep that in mind... "The usual?" :) BM>> Also initially doesn't make sense for grocery shopping to get BM>> heavier/more crowded around the holidays as people eat year round, but BM>> then yes, one does do speciality grocery shopping around the holidays. BM>> We only buy a turkey once a year, along with the sides, so while do eat BM>> green beans throughout the year might need to shop to be sure to have BM>> for the holidays. And once a year do make a special trip to a BM>> different grocery store as they have a cheesecake sampler. NB>> People don't feast year round, at least not usually... ;) There is NB>> a somewhat more intensive shopping around the holidays, and people NB>> buying fancier stuff often.... BM> True. We rarely-to-never buy a turkey any other time of BM> year. Same for rolls, though they're more 'rarely'. Same for gravy. BM> All the little sides and extras add up! NB> Exactly... :) Those sneaks!! BM> ... Doesn't "expecting the unexpected" make the unexpected expected? NB> Nah... it just means you aren't taken quite so thoroughly by NB> surprise.... Well that was unexpected! ¯ ® ¯ Barry_Martin_3@ ® ¯ @Q.COM ® ¯ ® ....
