Subj : Re: Millikan's was: Wegm To : NANCY BACKUS From : Daryl Stout Date : Tue Dec 24 2019 03:21:00 Nancy, First, I'm back...but it's not under the best circumstances, as noted later in this message. NB>At that point, you take it back, saying, guess I loosened it up for NB>you.... ;) It just takes a woman's touch. :) NB>That woeks... :) Even as adults we can go through phases where some NB>food is more or less enticing to us.... ;) H.A.M. -- H)ave A)nother M)eal -- and you don't call us late for dinner. And, this time of year, D.I.E.T. is a 4 letter excuse to cheat (my late wife came up with that), and it's an acronym for "Did I Eat That??" . I was going to go visit 2 friends and their dachshund for Christmas dinner, but after I got screwed over by eBay and the Postal Service, and all the other tension (I still have the field rats to deal with), I'm having trouble sleeping early on Christmas Eve...otherwise, I wouldn't be up at this hour answering BBS mail. The network mail is slow to start flowing again...although I think I told Joe Mackey via email that I was back online. So, after I go to Wal-Mart around midday today to deliver some items to them (most places are closing early on Christmas Eve...with only the Chinese Restaurants, and Walgreens open on Christmas Day), I'm going to tell them I won't be there...because after I finish a ham radio traffic net Tuesday evening, I'm going to lock the house up, and probably not go out until maybe next year. We're supposed to have rain and thunderstorms from Friday through next Monday...so, I'll be offline again. Maybe I'll sleep for 3 days, awakened only by the thunder, and the call of nature. Anyway, I had ordered an item from eBay (I should have known better), and was told that it wouldn't arrive until Dec. 26. So, I went out yesterday, to help my brother celebrate his birthday. The card I got him said "Beer Doesn't Go Very Well With Birthday Cake"...then you open the card up, and you read "I Guess The Cake Has To Go". But, when I got back to the house, there was no note in the mailbox, and I never got a note via email that it was actually going to be delivered yesterday. So, because I wasn't here, instead of putting a note in the mailbox, telling me to come pick it up at the Post Office, they instead marked it "RETURN TO SENDER" (found out via email last evening, when I clicked on the item to track it). Needless to say, I was livid with rage. So, I went onto the eBay site to complain, and sent a note to the vendor. They said they'd issue a refund once they got it back. But, the ineptness and other traits of the Postal Service have made me very angry. This isn't the first time this has happened...cases in point: 1) I sent a package overnight from Little Rock, Arkansas to Newington, Connecticut, just outside of Hartford. I mailed it out Monday for a "guaranteed delivery" on Tuesday. Instead, it went to Boston, Massachusetts first, and sat for a day (got there Tuesday, didn't go out until Wednesday). Then it went to Hartford, Connecticut, arriving Thursday, and wasn't delivered to Newington (a suburb) until the next week. When I demanded a refund, I got the $25 back, but they said "we've done all we can do"...like they didn't give a damn. I know a fellow ham radio operator, who is retired from there, noting "he saw the lackadasical (sp?) attitude all over the place". 2) Before my Mom got so sick, we had sent a cashiers check, priority mail, from Little Rock, Arkansas, to Atlanta, Georgia. It was supposed to get there in 2 days...but it got to Memphis, Tennessee, and SAT THERE FOR 4 DAYS!! Neither the holidays, weather, or the weekend, were an issue (it was mailed on Monday). 3) An item sent from our zip code to the same zip code, and mailed at the Post Office with that zip code, took a month to get there. 4) Numerous times, I have filled out a yellow HOLD MAIL card, in case I was to go out on vacation. They ended up putting it in the trash each time. Now, they want me to pay them $20 a week for "priority forwarding" with a hefty enrollment fee, and a bunch of paperwork; but, apparently, I can't do that, either...because my Post Office Box is at a different zip code in the local area...and it's too much work for them. So, that kills any future vacations outside of central Arkansas, and I needed to get away from things so bad. I guess I am cursed, and haven't suffered enough. No wonder I'm in a breakdown right now, and don't feel like doing much of anything. The hobbies aren't much of a diversion anymore. 5) I had constantly brought mail addressed to my Mom (who died August 9), to the Post Office serving the house, and told them to "Return To Sender". I talked to 3 different supervisors, and it's as if my requests fell on deaf ears. I hope a Post Office employee reads this, and that they are as offended by this as I am. But, I doubt they'll do anything about it. Yet, these fools wonder why everyone is going to email, FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc. Add to that, the cost of First Class Mail will increase to possibly 60 cents the first of the year. Why don't they just raise it to a dollar??!! So, if a place can't ship an item to my Post Office Box via the Postal Service, or via FedEx or UPS where I can track it, I won't order it. Combine that with being burned out on the holidays (Christmas stuff was in the store in July), plus having to undergo both a cardiac catheterization in January, before urinary bladder surgery...and still dealing with the rodents...folks still wonder why I'm such a Scrooge. I think of the cartoon of the elderly grandmother in her chair...with a shotgun next to her, and several reindeer heads on the wall...and she growls "Run over me, will you??" .
