BM>> Was reading or watching something where the comment was the BM>> folks of one generation would be familiar with while another BM>> generation the same topic was unfamiliar because they didn't live BM>> through it/wasn't part of their social lives. NB>> That could well be generally true.... an older or younger generation NB>> /might/ have some familiarity with it, but only if there was some NB>> reason that they were "spending time" in the other generation's NB>> social lives... BM> True. Computer stuff is relatively new and common but a 20-year-old BM> might not have a clue as to "dial-up" and "modem" or a 'floppy disk'. NB> I suppose not... Or even "bbs" or "message echo"... :) And some day I'll have to check out what the "BBS" thing is in the BIOS configuration (motherboards). ...Oh hi Kitty! ... Let's see, look in the manual of the current computer project... "Hard Drive BBS Priorities. CD/DVD ROM Drive BBS Priorities" (two separate listings). Hmm: displays the menu (picture of) but no explanation in the manual. OK, off to Google-land! What does the controller BIOS option "BBS Support" do? BBS Support means BIOS Boot Specification. The purpose of the BIOS Boot Specification is to standardize the boot process across PCI systems. The specification is designed to describe the method the BIOS will use to identify and prioritize IPL (Initial Program Load) devices in the system. Umm.... Select an article and did go more detail than the summary above -- there are a couple of ways to tell the machine which device to boot from. Suppose like on my old machine I could hit to pause automatic booting and select boot to Windows or to Linux (Ubuntu). Same hard drive, different partitions. So just like any abbreviation (and a lot of words) the mea ning depends on the context. ¯ ® ¯ Barry_Martin_3@ ® ¯ @Q.COM ® ¯ ® ....
