Subj : Dial-around Long Distance To : Nancy Backus From : Barry Martin Date : Wed Sep 04 2019 09:12:00 Hi Nancy! BM>> That's more or less my thoughts. Know with the old computer (the one BM>> previous to the one I'm on now) just about every time I booted it gave BM>> an error message. Appeared to be a minor one, essentially "Ubuntu had BM>> an internal error". Every so often looked at the logs but no idea; BM>> nothing ever seemed to act improperly. NB>> So probably just a confused computer generating the message... ;) BM> Apparently! The computer did something it wasn't supposed to do but BM> wasn't bad enough to cause a lock up or a major problem. Or a semi- BM> major problem from which it recovered. It keeps working properly BM> otherwise. NB> As long as it keeps working properly, that's the important NB> part... :) Yes. "Internal error' is rather vague. Something went wrong someplace. There are ways to get rid of the error pop-up but to me that's like covering up an idiot light on the car's dashboard. (Ok, weird example!) Something's not quite right but not bad enough to lock up. Maybe took two revolutions of the hard drive to pick up all the data. If I see a problem occurring constantly (such as every time I load Firefox) I probably want to check that out. The occasional geneal 'oops', probably not bother. BM> ...Might even be nothing: if look at the logs one sees error messages BM> about stuff that doesn't exist ==> something like "error, usb no BM> device". Well yeah: nothing's plugged in to that port! NB> Not an error, just a not found because not there... which the NB> computer isn't able to differentiate from not being able to NB> connect to something that might actually be there after all... :) Right. If it's there and not being detected that's a good thing to know! ¯ ® ¯ Barry_Martin_3@ ® ¯ @Q.COM ® ¯ ® ....
