Subj : flood stuff was: Vacation To : Nancy Backus From : Barry Martin Date : Sun Aug 25 2019 09:46:00 Subject: flood stuff was: Vacation Time! Hi Nancy! -=> Quoting Barry Martin to Nancy Backus on 13-Aug-2019 10:24 <=- -=> Quoting Barry Martin to Nancy Backus on 29-Jun-2019 08:37 <=- NB> Replying at 9:20am on the 6th... BM> A little after 7:30 a.m. on August 13th... NB> We're quite stretched out here... now about 4:30 pm on August NB> 24th... :) Getting close: 8:30 on August 25th! BM>> Nope. Never did associate anything with that 91 days. ...Oh! 365 BM>> days divided by 4 is 91.25. So for one-quarter of the year we had been BM>> flooded. Now makes sense! (To me "90 days" would have triggered BM>> three months.) NB>> Ah.... Yes, that makes sense... 90 days is usually what is used NB>> for three months, but it's only an approximation, just like 30 NB>> days is for a month... 13 weeks is more accurate for a quarter NB>> year, and that would be 91 days.... BM> Yes. LIS in an earlier message, initially the news anchor's use of BM> "91 days Monday" (something like that) initially didn't make sense. BM> Maybe because I was only half paying attention and missed the cue. BM> Once I figured it out some time later it made sense. NB> Or maybe he just figured that people would figure out where he NB> was coming from and hadn't given a cue... :) What was the final NB> tally of days at or above flood stage...? 96. As for the figuring it out, maybe, or there was a comment earlier in the news which I hadn't paid attention to. At least finally made sense to me. NB>>> And clean up is likely to continue for quite a while after the NB>>> River is back to normal.... BM>> Yes. Get the roads re-opened; LeClaire Park usually hosts most of the BM>> 4th of July entertainment but will not be ready this year so alterate BM>> sites have been obtained. Downtown (and other flooded areas) still BM>> cleaning - some probably into Fall if not longer. FEMA closed its BM>> temporary site but is still accepting applications for assistance. NB>> AIS, things are gradually getting back to normal... Good that FEMA NB>> will still accept the applications, some things wouldn't really come NB>> to light until one is able to start the cleanup.... BM> Probably true. Thinking of the possibility of buckled walls and mold BM> behind walls. NB> Yup... among other things... :) And LIS in an earlier set of messages, a couple/few businesses have decided to close permanently because can't afford to rebuild. Overall appears Downtown will recover, some quicker than others. BM>> And I think I made mention the other day for the EagleCam the metal BM>> box holding some of the remote networking/communications equipment had BM>> it's front cover broken off - by what's left wasn't a flimsy unit. The BM>> post stated either a floating log or falling branch probably hit. NB>> Something that struck with some force.... BM> Definitely some force behind it. LIS somewhere, the webcams are back BM> up but I haven't seen any of the eagles. My guess is I just haven't BM> looked at the right time. Looked a little earlier this morning and now BM> one camera's display says something about expired in 2018 (last year) BM> and the other is displaying the currently empty nest -- early enough BM> they might be out getting their breakfast. NB> And maybe the eaglets are mature enough to have left the nest...? Just checked: the webcams are back streaming live shots (yesterday when I checked there was a message re: expired 2018) but nobody home. The last official post was almost a month ago: Friday, July 19, 2019 Checking In We are still working on repairs to our equipment and hope to get the cameras back online soon. I have not been to the nest so I don't know if Windy and Storm are still hanging out or not. I am attaching map images of the four we are still tracking. They are all north in Wisconsin/Minnesota and in both Ontario and Manitoba, Canada. Might explain why the nest is empty when I check. Windy and Storm are the names of the eaglets. I've not seen (nor looked for) live location of the eagles. BM> ... I put my schedule in my back pocket. Guess that's why I'm behind. NB> Nice story.... I presume you're sticking to it...? I'll try! ¯ ® ¯ Barry_Martin_3@ ® ¯ @Q.COM ® ¯ ® ....
