Subj : Browser Scareware To : Daryl Stout From : Barry Martin Date : Mon Dec 12 2022 07:21:00 Hi Daryl! BM> Probably can drill down to "not yet perfected". Verbal communication BM> is a lot of guesswork: take "I like it too!". OK, in text we have a BM> cue: 'too" is 'also'. With sound could be to, too, or two. So "I like BM> it - two!" or possible "I like it to !" DS> Good point. Hey! watch it: that's sharp!r BM> And then the poor machine has another complication: external sounds. BM> Here I have music playing in the background, Others might have a TV. BM> And my cell phone just gave me an alert, so another potential word has BM> been given. DS> With the Google Nest Doorbell camera, I can't start saying DS> "OK", as it "wakes up the device". When I do a process with the DS> computer, the deal thinks it's glass breaking. And the security alarm gets triggered while it tries to figure which window got broken! BM> Accents can probably confuse: I have retained the New England 'R', so BM> it's "idear" for 'idea'. DS> Like the redneck who got pulled over by the cop, and was asked DS> if he had any ID. The redneck replied "'Bout What??". I called my ex 'Moonshine' because I loved her still! BM> And now more room to store other stuff! DS> I've been spending way too much time at the computer...and it DS> aggravates the dry corneas (which made me quit driving, and sell DS> my car 6 months ago). I'm mainly on the BBS to update the ham DS> radio and weather data, do the QWK mail, check for hack attempts, DS> and maybe play a few doorgames to keep my mind sharp. I spend too much time at the computers also: the usual e-mail, trivia- type sites for keeping the mind going (not all that into game-playing). Updating/repairing/revising the various computers around here. BM> All depends. I don't watch enough to make it worthwhile to pay to BM> override. OTOH I do pay a few dollars for Pandora so I don't run out BM> of time, have the occasional commercial, etc. All depends on perceived BM> value. DS> I hear she has one heck of a box. Though that can cause all sorts of surprises: some good, some bad! BM> Doens't ring a bell. Some of the selection is based on Operating BM> System: Windows stuff generally doesn't do me much good as I use Ubuntu BM> (Linux). Ease of use (a.k.a. do I understand how to configure and BM> use?) make a lot of difference too. DS> But, so many folks are computer illiterate. As noted before, I DS> can write a batchfile for the BBS, but my programming ends at DS> setting the clock on the microwave oven (then you supplied the DS> JPG of the timepiece on the cooking device ). I will sometimes spend hours and sometimes days looking up how to do a step: not the step is that complicated, just no programming training so it's like trying to create an ornate wedding cake using a Duncan Hines cupcake mix. ...In the end may not be pretty but it does the job! DS> I had to make an unexpected ambulance run to the Emergency Room DS> on Friday. I had a rapid heartbeat, and with congestive heart DS> failure, I didn't want to take a chance. The EKG was normal, but DS> the cause may have been that I didn't take the blood pressure and DS> other medicines after eating something to relive feeling DS> "peckish" in the morning. Some medications will make you DS> nauseated if you don't take them with food. Yes, some medications require food before or after; not following that advice can really screw things up. So far nothing all that nasty a side effect with my prescriptions. I do check their monographs for potential side-effects that may be sneaking up. DS> The hospitals have DS> been extremely busy with all the cases of flu and RSV lately. Yes. Along those lines one of the hospital groups did some changing around, though not in direct response to COVID and RSV: they closed an emergency room at one hospital on the West End and added one to a facilty on the East End. Sounds population-biased, doesn't it?! The "West" site is only about a mile from the 'main' hospital. (The West site is now mostly treatment for cancer and some other specialities.) The "East" site was mostly physician offices, with lab, radiology, probably some other stuff. Population is expanding into that area so makes sense to have a facility. DS> After getting home from the ER, I did very minor with work with DS> the BBS, and with the storms Friday night through much of DS> Saturday, I slept quite a bit. Yes, after a hospitalization, even a relatively minor one, one doesn't want to stress! No storms up here, though a couple of mornings was _very_ foggy. House is on a bluff and usually when there is fog in the area when I look outside it's "yeah, there's a bit of gray in the distance". The couple of mornings it was very noticeable when looking across the street! ¯ BarryMartin3@ ® ¯ @MyMetronet.NET ® ....
