Subj : Various Things To : Daryl Stout From : Barry Martin Date : Tue Jan 10 2023 08:17:00 Hi Daryl! BM> Where do you think 'dirt' came from?! DS> The Good Lord created it. BM> And who do you think played in it?! DS> It wasn't me. :P Thank you for keeping my dirt clean. :) BM> Personally I agree. I think the problem occurred when excess occurred: BM> both excessive spankings and excessive withholdings. ... And things BM> "get interesting" because sometimes a child will misbehave to get BM> attention while other times just 'devilish'. DS> One should never discipline their child in "anger". Of course, DS> when you are on the receiving end, you thing it's grievious. Yes: the surprise of the slap, the sting, the humiliation. As I implied in an earlier message, there's a very fine line between disciplining and excessive punishment. DS> Or the one where these church missionaries are at the door, and DS> ask "Have You Found Jesus??"...and The Lord is "hiding behind the DS> drapes". Love that one! BM> Yes, I've been loosely following that. That's also holding up the BM> swearing in of the newly-elected representatives. DS> They finally got it done after the 15th ballot. Yup. ...Things wil be interesting! BM> I was talking about the off-line editor: here SEDIT. At the time I was BM> checking through options I had the dictionary function and allowed BM> taglines. ...I just need to remember to use the Ctrl-A for the BM> dictionary function! DS> Some people are dictionaries...as no words can describe them. In that case how about a Thesaurus? ...Maybe revise that to case/instance/example.... BM> Except $6 for a gallon of milk, $5 for a box of crackers.... DS> I ordered a few things from Wal-Mart today, but they were out DS> of bread. I didn't need any beer or milk (I don't use those), or DS> toilet paper (I've got plenty). But, those are the 4 things that DS> disappear from the stores around here when they start warning of DS> a potential winter storm. The out-of-stock's are sometimes a little strange; suppose "in the details". If one ingredient is unavailable then the whole item can't be made: the recipe is based on a specific type of oil (for instance), which gives a bit of flavour, has a specific cooking characteristic, interacts with the other ingredients in certain way.... A lot easier for a home cook to substitute than a commercial site. BM> I would have called Wendy's to complain-advise of the mishap. The BM> driver should have known of the wet bag on delivery to you. Either BM> Wendy's didn't pack properly for the delivery or the driver did some BM> interesting driving. (It is possible the driver had to swerve or BM> suddenly stop to avoid an accident.) DS> Well, I have enough food now where I won't need to order out DS> until next month. There was a special from Slim Chickens today DS> for 25 tenders for $25 in honor of the college football DS> championship tonight (Jan. 9), but I decided to pass on it. DS> That's like the potential football team quarterback who was asked DS> if he could pass a football...and he said "only if I can swallow DS> it". :P (Why am I thinking a urologist should be involved?!) BM> IMO Subway used to be good for the value but not any longer. DS> The price of everything has gone up...and I rarely order out DS> anymore, as I can't afford it. We gradually decreased our eating-out in the years pre-pandemic: combination of time it took, sometimes the food wasn't as good as it should have been/was the previous time, etc. Back then the cost wasn't as great a factor as it is now. BM> Right. For a while the store where I worked at implimented a single- BM> cashier-per-till rule (well, corporate did). Piddled off a few BM> customers as they were used to checking out a Position 1 and had to BM> move to Position 2 because the cashier could not. DS> Everyone wants to "have it their way" all the time, but that's DS> like expecting Congress to balance the budget, Social Security to DS> make a profit, and Hell to freeze over. It was supposed to be more efficient use of resouces (and in tiny print slash expenses). One of the main problems was the numbers were based on hitting the Total button on the register: not a bad problem at the general cashiering areas where customers come and go constantly but in departments like Large Appliances it can take an hour to show the customer the merchandise and a decision to be made and so a sale. So according to the bean-counters there was nothing done until an hour after the store opened when the sale was done and therefore no need for employees to be scheduled. Oops! (The real-life manangers had to edit the automated scheduler; they'd get nastygrams for overriding until it was figured out why the bad automated scheduling, which of course the corporate big-wigs claimed to be perfect.) BM> Possibly -- a lot of factors are in place now which weren't in 1929, BM> guessing a few also from 1987. to avoid a runaway issue. The only BM> thing I can do is be careful of my spending -- spend too much now I BM> won't have for later. Of course that creates some problems now, so by BM> me holding on to my money that creates problems. Can't win! (Thought BM> I'm going to do what I think I need to do for me to win.) DS> Well, the money isn't worth the paper it's printed on. Ha: what about those pennies??!!!! BM> Yup. The only thing I'd be a hare concerned about is the two weeks BM> between mail box pick-ups: I'd check into their rules and regulations BM> (ask!) about the length of time mail sits there before triggers an "is BM> the customer alive?" type of thing. Don't want a "return to sender". DS> With the Post Office Box, it stays there until I pick it up...I DS> usually go once every 2-3 weeks, and that takes care of things. OK, didn't know if there was a policy it it wasn't picked up within a certain period of time and/or the box overflowed..... DS> I saw a meme with the Grinch holding a dachshund, and the DS> dachshund was ready to bite the Grinch. I wouldn't want to have been held that way! BM> And in any case drive according to conditions. 25 might be too fast! DS> Everyone is in such a hurry. That and not thinking to change to meet current conditions. The speed sign is for common and proper driving conditions. BM> Huh: electroencephalogram is flat! DS> But, I'm still breathing. Blame that on the Autonomic Nervous System! ¯ BarryMartin3@ ® ¯ @MyMetronet.NET ® .... Hot Date!
