Subj : Explaining Risk Ratings To : Mike Powell From : Barry Martin Date : Thu Apr 03 2025 07:02:00 Hi Mike! MP> As it is that time of year again, here are the RISK levels MP> mentioned in the Severe Weather and Heavy Rain alerts that I MP> often post here: MP> MARGINAL = 1/5 MP> SLIGHT = 2/5 MP> ENHANCED = 3/5 MP> MODERATE = 4/5 MP> HIGH = 5/5 MP> Some of those words, like "Slight" and "Moderate" don't sound as MP> serious as they actually are if you look at the 1-5 scale. Agree: 'slight' sounds innocent enough but can do a lot of damage. On TV where they can do a colour scale the yellow-orange-red scaling (they do use five shades) tend to get around the casualness of the 'slight' catagory. BTW, where I am in the Quad Cities (Bettendorf, Davenport IA, Moline, Rock Island, IL) we pretty much missed yesteday's storms. We were in a region of 3/Enhanced but fortunately just got the 'remote excitement' of almost night-time black a few times as the systems rolled through, heavy nut not torrential rains, some hail. ¯ ® ¯ BarryMartin3@MyMetronet.NET ® ¯ ® ....
