Subj : SNOW! To : Mike Powell From : Barry Martin Date : Sat Feb 10 2024 07:22:00 Hi Mike! MP> These are both pretty neat! Yes, a nice throw-back to the text-only days we started in. 'curl' gives a lot of information. > Thought: How about text-based weather forecasts? Some I use: > finger -- Linux and Windows > finger city@graph.no > ex.: finger davenport@graph.no Display Celsius > finger ^davenport@graph.no Display Fahrenheit (Linux) > finger "^"davenport@graph.no Display N++F (Windows) MP> This one I have to use frankfort_ky or it will show me Frankfurt, MP> Germany. :) I get a place in France if I enter 'finger bettendorf@graph.no'; if i use 'bettendorf_ia' it takes me to Pleasant Valley, which isn't too bad considering it's the eastern boarder of Bettendorf. > curl -- Linux (gave me an error when tested on VM Windows XP) > curl -s wttr.in/davenport | head -7 Current conditions > curl -s wttr.in/davenport Three day forecast in > four-hour segments. Display > in full screen to avoid line > wraps. MP> This one works with a simple '/Frankfort'. I wonder if it uses MP> my location info. Hmm, might: I type in 'bettendorf' and gives me the correct Bettendorf. ....Just as a test tried 'Vienna' -- gave me the one in Austria. With the readings in Imperial, not metric! > ansiweather -- Pretty sure only Linux. Go to website for details. MP> This one is interesting. Using "Frankfort" seems to give the MP> correct current conditions. However, if I ask for "Frankfort" MP> and use the -F command (for forecast), it says that the high for MP> the next 5 days will be around 90F! I tried "Frankfort_KY" but MP> that gives an error. Probably not: I remembered the config file (./ansiweatherrc) used a semi- strange setting: Bettendorf,US, So yours is probably ansiweather -l Frankfort,US. One minor issue is ansiweather doesn't verify the reporting site. I know there are at least two Nashua's (IA and NH), numerous Hudson's (NH, NY).... MP> I will have to work on that one some. ;) Once you set up the config file you can simply type 'ansiweather' at the command line. I also played a but with spacing to make it look nice: I added a few spaces after the 'Wind' entry so all the arrows and therefore readings line up. ¯ ® ¯ BarryMartin3@MyMetronet.NET ® ¯ ® ....
