Makes sense.  Here on  ILink the idea was to restrict ANSI to the one
conference specifically where the artwork was allowed to minimize the
possibility of ANSI bombs.  I personally didn't have any problems
elsewhere other than one person's signature would throw my printer (DEC
LA50) into graphics mode: would print his message fine, the next message
was like hieroglyphics.  (There was a print utility available which I 
used to substitute the character to a space to solve the problem.)
