I was quite surprised to see that my community just south of Tampa has an amateur radio 
group that is offering a 'Disaster Radio Service Program' that makes it possible to get a low 
cost transmitter for emergency use.

With it, we will have a low cost radio service allowing us to request emergency services 
when our phones are no longer working.
