ezstream (in the icecast download page) got me running!  It turns out that
the VLC .ogg converter is broken.  I had to use videoproc (which I already
owned for other purposes) and converted my files to .ogv, which ezstream
handles quite well.  It took a bit to get everything configured properly, but
the man page and the examples helped greatly.
