Maybe things have changed, but the general imcompatibility of blu-rays with
anything FOSS was a matter of magazine articles not long ago. There were some
comercial packages that worked so-so and that was the most you would get.

(Appliance is a machine packaged and tailored to its stated purpose ie: a DVD
player)
