Been doing this for decades on many shows on radio/TV & some movies. Much of the time...the writers/producers think people may not be able to watch every episode. Add to that...life/work gets busy and many just forget what they had watched. For instance...there have been times before digital recording/bittorrent & such where you might not be able to start watching a show from the pilot due not being aware of it.

Now...not much of an issue anymore. TV tuner cards/bittorrent can be a god send if you want to get a whole series. Am dating myself...but I remember the '60's TV version of Batman on ABC in the US. The show ran 3 days a week at one time & this would probably be the worst example of this. Back then...many markets had only 3 commercial networks. With no video tapes during this time...you might watch one show on another network...but then watch Batman on one of the other nights. This way...you might miss an episode...but you would see what happened on the night you didn't watch.
