Paramount came out with all sorts of rules, I think one of them was that TV/movie actors weren't allowed to do indie productions. Don't know if that would hold up in a court, but you'd easily find yourself unemployed by Paramount productions. I did like that Paramount claimed copyright over several Star Trek cultural items, including the Klingon language.
