Oh, it would have.

If the heroes are whimps and pushovers, I start rooting for the bad guys.

Voyager has the dubious honor of nerfing the Borg beyond respectability.

Then there was the species from beyond space who were so evil not even the Borg
wanted to deal with them, but then they were turned into kumbaya victims who
only wanted a better life. Within the same season.

"I am Death, the Destroyer of Universes! This Reality of yours will be my
bitch, and I will have all your kind as snack!" (two episodes later) "I am a
poor opresed missfit. I need a hug. Hug me or I will cry."
