A friend of mine had his father vanish. Probably not the sort of vanishing you
are talking about.

I remember some sci-fi fanfic in which teleportation consisted in making copies
of people who existed in a certain parallel dimension on the target location,
but it was very badly explained, and kind of inconsostent. But htat is
fanfiction for you.
