There was a time, I expected Linux would be at least a partial solution to
that, given it gave far better bang for the buck against DOS or early Win
systems.  But that didn't last long... where it was feasible if not always
practical to get it installed on... a 386 class system, slowest I tried was a
DX40 wasn't long before you couldn't... I had the DX40 running a MUD
briefly...
