Nah you are not the only one.. I go to the local Salvation Army looking all the time, I also asked a recycling center if I could take some computers but they said no. If I see a computer being thrown out, I will stop and take it. I will then take it home clean it up, see what it is, if it is something less then say 7-10 years old I will add RAM and if there is no HD in it a HD. Then install Debian on it. I have sold a few on eBay but most of the time I just keep them as backups for anything I might need down the line, currently I have a computer in just about every location I would possibly need to google something or to dial out.. I guess as I get older this keeps me sane.. LOL
