Until LGR showed one off, I was never even aware that monochrome VGA even
existed.

"Monochrome VGA" always seemed an oxymoron.  The whole purpose of VGA was the
great color.  If you wanted monochrome, a Hercules card with (much cheaper)
monochrome monitor worked great.
