My friend 2t> and I will have a conversation (and our phones are nearby, but not in 2t> use) and then suddenly, we start getting ads or video recommendations 2t> about that topic. This has happened to me, and I wonder whether or not, for example, if I discuss fire extinguishers with someone, and then I see an ad for fire extinguishers, if the issue is that I saw an advertisement or news story, or heard something on the radio about fire extinguishers and it got into my subconscious and that's why I brought the subject up for discussion, even though I'm unaware of it. Or maybe someone at the office was listening to an NPR story about fire extinguishers on the way to work and I overheard *their* conversation while I was making coffee. And the ads are not triggering on what I am saying, but on the news story or article that put the memetic content out there. I almost kinda don't want to know; experiencing the uncanny is one of the few pleasures still available to me in this boring age. Whoever creeps me out like that, has my thanks - commercial enterprise or not. That said, if a person proves user agents (Alexa, Siri, etc.) are eavesdropping and pushing ad content that way, they're going to be very famous. --- Mystic BBS v1.12 A47 2021/12/24 (Linux/64) * Origin: Shipwrecks & Shibboleths [San Francisco, CA - USA] (21:1/227) .
