Usenet had their restricted areas, too -- I was a telecom manager in a former life, and comp.dcom.telecom was my goto newsgroup. It was moderated and very informative when I was soaking up telco knowledge. Some people started up comp.dcom.telecom.unmoderated, so you could get your telco content straight up or unmoderated. It's oddy to think back to a usenet that was mostly content an slightly spammy, instead of vice versa. ....
