I like it because the protocol is very easy to hack into doing what you want it to do. The idea behind Gemini is that is is a protocol which is designed to be hard to extend to pack ugly things such as cookies and tracking. I am not a ware of the current state of the implementations. MOst of what I have heard about are the existence of usable proof of concepts.
