Used to have a couple of touch screen CRTs kicking around paint store. You
could select a photo that looked something like your house, and then select
colours and apply them to whatever you touched.  Always thought it'd make a
spiffy addition to try and play DOOM with. Yes it was that long ago. Not sure
how it was doing surface detection, but it was a serial device at the back
end. It was never sensitive enough to be worried by the incumbent insect
population.
