I used to have a leaf node back in the day. Got my feed from the local
university for free. I was thinking about spinning a new one up not too long
ago but the usual providers are no longer available. Now it's pay $20us/month
for unlimited binary groups.

Gopher servers pre-www. Archie servers for trying to track down files.
Scheduled UUCP data transfers between offices before leased lines were
"affordable". Ah, the good old days.
