I don't like virtual machines much for gaming.

I see the game requires 3D graphics card compatible with DirectX 7 (DirectX 9 recommended). 3D graphics in virtual machines have a tendency to suck.

Steam's page suggests the game ought to be compatible with modern systems so you should ask their tech support for options rather than attempting your own hacks.

If you want to try with  virtual machine, you could grab VirtualBox and see how it goes. You might have to enable 3D acceleration
