Following a recommendation I found over on the vintage compute federation forums in an old discussion about serial modem emulators, I've ordered a couple of Lantronx UDS10 ethernet to serial devices 2nd hand from ebay. Looks like they'll do what I need, I'll let you all know that works out! Looking at the docs for this device, it can do a number of protocols including telnet. Will be interesting to see how it functions in practice when pared with a traditional modem based terminal app. I think there will be much fun and frustration in my near future! ....
