It's been a Loooong time... Tseng was definitely the cream of the crop. They
ended up belonging to ATI and ultimately AMD.  All the ET4000s I saw came
with 4 dipswitches, which affected memory usage I think. Could be this is
pushing your EGA video out of regular mapping.

It might also just be your video card.  Can't say I saw a problem with any of
them doing this. Maybe its got faulty memory, like 1 chip getting a bit
flakey or its a poor card its in.  There were some horses for courses
sporting the chipset in the end, they weren't all born equal.
