IMHO, a lot of web MP> pages these days are made to make things run slow. I first started using the internet in late 1995, and at the time, I had a 386DX-40 running DOS and Windows 3.1, and either a 14.4k or 33.6k modem (I don't remember which I had by then). I was using Netscape on Windows (I think I started with version 2 or something), and I remember it being usable. Web sites back then were fairly light compared to web sites today, so it wasn't too bad. I think the bottleneck at the time was probably the dialup modem speed.
