There's a ton of information around the 'net, but it started with Broadcom's CEO noting that the majority of their revenues come from a fraction of their customer base, their largest customers. They removed perpetual licensing, jacked up support pricing, removed some of the licensing most beneficial to smaller companies and removed the free version of ESXi, which a lot of people used to learn VMWare in homelabs. They're trying to extract as much money out of it as they can, while they can. ....
