FWEEEEEEEEEET....fwooooot... Ah, yes. Visceral memories of that sound. The incessant fidget before the big long FWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE... where the data goes on. > I have one of each (floppy that fit inside a drive bay) and a SCSI that I > never used, but should hook it up to a linux server and see if I can get it > going to retrieve my old files. I also have an 8 bay CDx1 Speed drive rack > mount as well .. I dug out my tape drive the other day, which was originally intercepted from being thrown away from a school in the early 2000s. Linux still, of course, was happy to work with it but after pulling the first few filenames out of the tape it went back into fweet fwoot fweet mode and could do no more. Then it wouldn't read the next tape, or the next one. They were all stored together so I put it down to bit rot... until I went to pack the drive away and found its belt lying on the bench underneath. It's never what you think will get you that gets you :( BobW --- SBBSecho 3.20-Linux * Origin: >>> Magnum BBS <<< - bbs.magnum.uk.net (21:1/205) .
