Ahh the cool sweet smell of the RIFA.  Short term you could probably run without, just get the corpse out.  Mostly they're there to filter noise being fed back into the mains... And pop in a new one when you get hold of a replacement.

I have a toaster mac here that powered up, would run for a few minutes and power off.  Turned out to be a faulty RIFA... it's warm up internally short and trip the RCD.. been sitting there for a while now.. I should get a "round-toit.
