I used Kubuntu back when I was finishing my degree.  Not a bad distro. 
But the only real problem I have had with Mint in the past was when I was
trying to dual boot (well, more than dual... Windows, Fedora, Red-Hat,
Mint, Kubuntu, Hackintosh... and I think there was one other in there).

Don't even ask why....
