No one is forced to pay for windows, unless you go for a name brand (Ie:
HP/Dell etc).. They have deals with MS. There is *nothing* stopping you from
putting on another OS from a non name brand pc.

I re-did a pc for a friend the other week, and after lending her a laptop
with linux on it, the new pc (to her) has linux on it as well.

It originally came with NO os. It's a Intel NUC.
