In dem good ol' days, a lot of shareware didn't cripple, it just gave you a
time frame and then relied on your good graces to pay the fee. On a slightly
different note, often early versions of the same software wouldn't be
crippled although it may not be quite as fully featured. So if E looks good
but becomes crippled it might be worth looking at a few versions earlier.
