There's a great podcast called "Eat This World" where the host discusses the history of various foods, interviews chefs, etc. The episode on tea was interesting. Sir Thomas Lipton wanted to move tea from a highbrow drink to the masses and sent out little silk sachets full of tea to markets to get the word out. People started steeping the whole sachet in boiling water, and the tea bag was invented, unintentionally. ....
