It is not California who is convincing kids to use Electron based videoconference applications for chatting which require more RAM than I have available. Software developers routinely throw more hardware in to solve software issues because it helps them code faster. Making a web application may be hard if you work from scratch, but it you throw a heavy framework for the task you will have it done in a week! The only drawback is that the user will need 2 GB of RAM to move the applicationinstead of 150 MB, but who cares about the user? ON the other hand we demand more and more eye candy on our computers and won't settle for writting reports using a terminal if we can use a GUI application, even if running the GUI application needs us to replace an old functional computer. Of course Sillicon Valley leviathans are making the issue worse by producing shitty software that requires you to replace working gear to run it, but this goes so far beyond the realm of Economics (the study of exchanging a goods and services). It is about people not being able to function with old tech that works fine because we have gone lazy and our expectations are greedy. -- gopher://gopher.richardfalken.com/1/richardfalken --- SBBSecho 3.15-Linux * Origin: Palantir * palantirbbs.ddns.net * Pensacola, FL * (21:2/138) .
