 |    07 Jul 2006   Syd Barrett died from complications arising from          

 | o                diabetes aged 60. The singer, songwriter, guitarist was  o

 |                  one of the founding members of Pink Floyd, active as a    

 | o                rock musician for only about seven years before he went  o

 |                  into seclusion. He joined Pink Floyd in 1965 but left     

 | o                three years later after one album. Barrett released two  o

 |                  solo albums before going into self-imposed seclusion      

 | o                lasting more than thirty years, with his mental          o

 |                  deterioration blamed on drugs.                            


  ;(   Syd actually played on at least part of their second album, and also
appeared on singles, like "See Emily Play" and "Arnold Layne" that were not
on either album.

I have read claims from the band that he was ok one day and then, after an
acid trip, was not at all ok and never was.  I recently watched a
documentary about Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, and he apparently had a
similar experience.
