Subj : Gerry Rafferty To : ACMEBBS From : Ogg Date : Wed May 25 2022 21:25:00 Hello ACMEBBS! ** On Monday 23.05.22 - 23:08, ACMEBBS wrote to CDP: >> There's also a great cover of this tune by Neal Morse >> (Morse/Portnoy/George): https://www.youtube.com/ >> watch?v=IszlXuQ99Fo A> Watching/listening to it right now. WOWWWWWW! I checked it out too. It looks like an interesting project, being one person was playing 3 roles (drummer, percussionist, and something else) and the keyboardist was also the singer? Good enerergy and passion by all. I bet it was a lot of fun to stitch all that together in a synchronized way. But.. I still think the original was better. I missed the harmonies and that special vocal "sound" from Rafferty's version. >> I suspect there's a number of people who've covered this. >> It would be hard not too for a good enough musician, but >> it's the perfect song and can't really be improved on. A> Seem to remember others have as well. Shawn Colvin + David Crosby do a very sombre bluesy version. No sax. Waylon Jennings' version is very recognizable to the original. But no sax. Jonathan Coulton's version is a near dupe with the sax. Maynard Ferguson's sounds like a cross between the Batman TV theme and something that James Last would do for a party LP. Ann Wilson's version stands out very lyric centric, meaning the words are the focus. Good musical energy. Exotique, no lyrics, pretty much ALL sax! Elevator music on a bit of steroids. --- OpenXP 5.0.51 * Origin: fsxnet/2 (21:3/110.10) .
