The pickup pattern / directional sensitivity is independent of condenser or dynamic. Most dynamic mics have their advantages on stage. In general they tolerate higher levels of physical abuse and sound pressure. So you can eat the mic and scream into it without too much distortion; of course the background noise is relatively low then. But this is not how you usually record in the studio, your podcast, etc. There a good condenser, ribbon and dynamic mics for all kind of different applications. There are many very good condenser mics for studio, voice, speech and broadcast. Very important is the polar pattern, placement of the mic, shock mount, wind shield ... and acoustics of the room and background noise. I don't think the clean, compressed, boosted, mic-eating radio voice is always the most pleasant to listen too. There is nothing wrong with some birds in the background and a bit of good reverb from the room (if your lucky and the room you are recording in provides pleasant reverb). https://ledgernote.com/columns/studio-recording/condenser-vs-dynamic-mics-10-myths-busted/ Has anyone experience with the Audio-Techica AT2020? If it were less expensive, I would recommend the Shure SM7B. The Wikipedia article also mentions the Shure MV7 (cheaper and additional USB): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shure_SM7 --- * Origin: They're made out of meta (21:3/102) .
